When Jenny asked me if I would like to contribute to one of the aGathering Guest spots this month, I agreed – but then started to rather worriedly think through the images that I could share; this is not one that I thought of!

Something I love about photography is that rather than the traditional “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” it’s that the story of an image can be written by the viewer. A previously warm toned image and wonderful memory of an evening enjoying a Bellini at Harry’s Bar in Venice becomes a rather dark and mysterious journey down a shadowy street with a seemingly unknown figure having just stepped out of a pool of light, walking away.

Having left Harry’s Bar we were on the hunt for an evening meal, which ended up being at a wonderful neighbourhood trattoria, rounding out an amazing day. Venice is a magical place; and I’m looking forward to going back one day.

“There is something so different in Venice from any other place in the world that you leave at once all accustomed habits and everyday sights to enter an enchanted garden”
Mary Shelley

  1. Can’t wait for white peaches to be in season here, but there is nothing like a Bellini on a warm summer night in Venice.

Lovely to see your work here Laura, thank you for sharing.
