Minor White said “One should not only photograph things for what they are but for what else they are”.

On the side of the sofa, evening sun through a glass of wine.

That’s what it is, but it is also several other things: warmth, friendship, love and laughter…

  1. I knew there was a reason for filling a wine glass in the evening!!!

That quote is one of my favourites and in this case you have taken the idea all the way.

Even though you have told us, I still cant see the sofa or any real reference to the wine glass…… But warmth, friendship, love and laughter come through load and clear

  2. Your abstracts have always intrigued me, Jenny, and this one is no exception! Without the back story I would have no idea what this image started as; and then of course it can mean whatever we want it to. Abstracts make us think about our own idea of what else it is. Thank you for sharing your friendship and warmth.

  3. Jenny I was about to type that quote for my post.I live by it as much as I can.
It was interesting to hear how it was made but in the end it is how it looks and what emotion it evokes that counts. For me it denotes power and a spark of energy.
Isn’t it cool that we can have different responses and like something for different reasons.

    • Thanks John, I hope you do type that quote. It has helped me see my world as a great source of photographic opportunities, and to think about them a bit differently too. Some might say that’s whacky, but I couldn’t possibly agree.
