Lili the Cowgirl

One of the benefits of living in a heavily populated area is the number of opportunities for organised activities. Several times we’ve attended and enjoyed photography events organised by Olympus in the UK. The most recent was an afternoon on the outskirts of London with some of the acts from Giffords Circus.
Fifty photographers ‘won’ tickets to the event. We were treated to three acts in the ring and then were split into three groups to photograph three entertainers, each photographer taking a [brief] turn to capture the action. A professional photographer assisted with each of the entertainers and had already set up lighting, so I can take no credit for the light. Of course, I wanted to take Lili outside where the light was soft and beautiful, and I wanted a blurry background – but there wasn’t the freedom to do that. However, I’m thrilled with this image. Lili was so funny, so professional, and apparently happy to be directed by a ‘circus of photographers’!

  1. Vicki, this is stunning.

    • That’s what I think too, John – thank you! I keep going back to look at it. However, I also wish I could take more of the credit … Lili was fabulous (I was probably the 45th photographer she posed for that afternoon), and the lighting was all set up for me. I had all of 30 – 60 seconds in front of her. I am responsible for selection of the parasol, composition, capturing the moment and post-processing …. and for sharing it. 🙂

  2. Wow! I admire your journey with people Vicki. You have come such a long way 🙂
