Context matters

Context does matter.
In Christchurch (especially after the earthquake) peeling paint, cracked cement plaster, broken downpipe, blocked up window and weed growing out of stone foundations would be depressing. In Venice it looks attractive – partly association and partly interesting architecture.
I have printed it and put it on the wall – and I love it. God is in the detail and printing A2 size helps.
Ian is right, I must print more.

  1. Love seeing all this colour! :-).
Very good point about context – so true.
Love that you are doing lots of printing. I must do more of my work (that’s for me)

  2. So, so, so true! Context gives meaning to the content. This picture is interesting for me, in the light of your comments, because I wonder if the spark of recognition that encouraged you to stop and make this would have been the same if you had not experienced what you have here in Christchurch over the past few years. Is it recognition that drives us or something else indeed.

  3. John,
I read a quote somewhere today “Content is King. Context is GOD”
    🙂
