The past couple of weeks have been …. unusual.
Since Rongomai’s death I’ve been thinking a lot about my portrait photography. With the immediate, and horrible, connotations of Rongomai’s portrait, my thoughts have inevitably turned to family. Especially since I was about to leave them again, as my UK visa finally came through.
So, I’m starting with the most alive and liveliest of my relations. Several years ago a portrait of this young man caused much hilarity at a Christchurch Photographic Society competition results night. I’d titled the image “My Little Angel”, and the judge noted that only a mother could title the image so! Several years later, and at the ripe old age of 25, it’s more difficult to think of him as my little angel, but it’s the same man. Andrew lives to surf and has just started a business at Brighton, Christchurch, teaching surfing – Soul Surfing. It seems that he’s always got a smile on his dial! He’s created a life where he has plenty to smile about, and I’m so very happy for him.
