Years of trying to visit this place I’ve heard so much about and when I finally make it – pea soup.

A few minutes after arriving however, the fog began to lift, allowing the winter sun to filter through and one by one the colourful, character-full cribs were revealed, tucked in amongst rocky outcrops for protection. In addition to this the water was frozen solid, contributing to the totally surreal scene.

Strangely though, it is this early image I made soon after arriving that draws my attention; when there seemed little to photograph and nothing to suggest the visual feast that was to unfold around us.
