Except in the case of a happy accident, originality doesn’t arrive without experimentation. Nothing new comes from standard ways of seeing or standard ways of using familiar materials. Bear in mind that experimentation runs the risk of failure & that most experiments are dead ends. In recognition or fear of this basic truth, photographers shy away from experimentation. You must be willing to try & fail, then try & fail again & again & again. This can be frustrating, time consuming, but more important it can be incredibly rewarding when the experiment comes out with a result.
This has been on the canvas for sometime, I had my final insight of inspiration/experimentation today so this has fulfilled my original vision.

  1. Every time I look at this another set of eyes jump out at me.

I have an odd slightly disturbing feeling looking at it but I am drawn to keep looking and to look deeper.

  2. I am so glad you have put this up Scott, and I love the words too. It is all too easy to sit in a place of safety, of comfort but never move on as a result. Experimentation, and the acceptance of potential failure, and the dead ends, should be celebrated as opportunities to spread outwards and upwards. You never know when something is going to work towards fulfilling the vision. Success!

  3. Thank you guys, try & fail then try again, the eyes are there.
