Untitled – Claire Birks

Most of my favourite images I’ve taken have had absolutely no prior thought or planning behind them. This image was taken after a commercial shoot, I was just finishing up on the beach with the model, handed her some face wipes so she could take off her makeup. I spotted pretty light coming through the trees, so pinned her hair up and had her sit on a tree stump and I took a quick shot.
These tend to be my favourite images, the unplanned, just seeing something for what it is at the time, being visually inspired by my surroundings.

  1. I like this alot, you are right sometimes the shots after the shoot are better, everyone is relaxed, the unplanned, unperceived ideas, but you had your eyes open & something inside said, check out the lighting shoot it. It is such a compelling image I have looked at it alot & enjoy the whole story here.

  2. Your image is so beautiful, Claire. And I can create so many versions of her story – I have so many questions. There’s strength and vulnerability; is she a ‘wrecked’ princess, or a wood nymph; is she searching for someone or something; is she waiting; what has she been through – other than a bush, backwards! 😉

  3. Thank you for joining us Claire! I so love that you just took the idea and ran. It’s beautiful. Because of the side profile, the sticks and the grittiness, while still having a vulnerability about her.
