This image is part of my Christchurch Soul collection which is comprised of three series entitled 'Windows to the soul', 'Fallen History' and 'Raw emotions of Survival'.
The collection conveys the lives of those who lived, loved and worked in the buildings that are now becoming part of our history. This is the last chance we have to capture some of these scenes. It is my belief that these buildings have a story to tell, and I want to challenge my viewers into thinking about whether buildings have a soul, maybe a spirit left behind by the collective memories.
I want to give viewers the opportunity to consider these moments in time that shattered the lives of so many.
I want to stimulate the viewers emotions, thoughts & senses, to question & consider & appreciate how  destruction can become art to be valued.  I have given the images a dream like finish to almost soften the reality while bringing out all of the detail but with a dark powerful edge to represent the destruction that mother nature set forth.

  1. It is important to have a record of the destruction. But, also, it will be great when they are a distant memory. Thanks for the image.

  2. I think good buildings do take on the energy of the people who inhabit them. I like the autumn leaves , greener pastures metaphor. Nothing is permanent but life goes on.
