This crane is vital for bringing supplies onto Norfolk Island. It is used for launching and retrieving the tender boats as well as actually unloading them.

As well as being important I found it interesting because it is great piece of technology. It is a car driven winch. You attach the rope in the foreground to the towball of your car and drive down the wharf to operate it.

Simple and effective – exactly how vital technology should be…..
