I don't know this man, nor I ever will but something about him seemed incredibly fascinating and peaceful. While all on the train moved at the steady city pace he seemed to take his time and appreciate the small magazine he was reading with every turn of the page. As I watched him, everyone seemed to fade away as the character and substance of this highly religious and possibly well respected man took a hold on me. For me, he is non-era specific, and that is what draws me to him deeply. This is, I think, one of my favourite photos I've ever taken because I always wanted to document someone like him and it differs from a lot of my other work. For some reason this photo is very personal to me, but I'll have to figure why later.”

  1. Take the time to look through Jake’s webite, well worth the journey. Not only is the photo above very personal to Jake but many other people think so too. “My Photo ‘The Rabbi’ has been successfully voted into Flickr’s group “100 Best-Highly Competitive” Super stoked and humbled.”

  2. The story echoed my own reactions to seeing the image. I can easily believe it is well regarded on the Flickr site since it conveys the curiosity, respect and intimacy that you described feeling when you made the image. Love it!

  3. A lovely visual poem, well captured & great composition, well done & thanks for sharing.

  4. Love it. I can only echo what Dave has said.

  5. This picture makes me feel like Im sitting beside you on the train.
I have just had a wander around your website and thoroughly enjoyed the journey.
