We have just returned from a week in Rarotonga.

It was a great way to finish the year and very relaxing. I was thinking about exactly what it was that made things feel so relaxed. I concluded that time seems to pass at a different way or perhaps at a different rate. The term “Island Time” is a real thing.

The combination of hot temperatures, which discouraged us from doing much physically, and the fact that there wasn't much to do turned everyone into slow moving sloths. A great thing for a holiday.

But in the bright sun everything I photographed looked crisp and vibrant. Nothing felt slow moving at all.

My answer was go to the beach a night time…….

  1. A night shot in a hot spot – What a good idea, Ian. Happy New Year. May 2012 be a good one for all.

  2. You have nailed the essence of the Cooks here Ian. It does go at a totally different pace to the rest of the world and that’s just fine by me. I love the place.
Happy New Year to all and lets all have a great 2012.

  3. We went to Rarotonga last year & loved it, Island time is wonderful to experience, nothing & no ones in a hurry the way a good holiday should be.

  4. Wonderful… there’s very much a sense of the surreal about this. Without the background it would be difficult to place it. The softening of the waves against the crisp shore makes me think I’m looking into an aquarium… then the rocks appear floating just under the horizon… Interesting – or maybe the New Year wines have had their impact 🙂
